Three IITGn profs conferred with Ramanujan Fellowship
Three professors from the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGn) have been chosen for the Ramanujan Fellowship 2015 by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The three academicians chosen for the honour are Professors Arnab Dutta, Saumyakanti Khatua and Virupakshi Soppina — each academician will be given a monthly scholarship of Rs 85,000 and a research grant of Rs 7 lakh per annum for a period of five years.

While Dutta and Khatua are from the field of chemistry, Soppina comes from a biological engineering background. As per the institute, Dutta is developing enzymeinspired artificial electro catalysts which will be essential for frugal utilisation of environment friendly renewable energy resources. Khatua is working on synthesis and applications of gold nanoparticles and their assemblies.

Soppina is engaged in a study that focuses on understanding the manner in which molecular motors transport large cargo molecules over a long distance inside brain neurons and the manner in which defects in the transport system are related to neurodegenerative diseases.
